The Committees
Executive Committee
For an organization to always go to the right direction, leaders are needed. For this organization, the executive committee, its governing body, leads. It consists of members who, even outside the organization, are leaders, imbued with sheer optimism, a huge splotch of responsibility and just the right attitude. Together, they steer the whole org to the direction, veering away or driving right through obstacles, when necessary. They let doubts take the backseat as their goals take the wheel.
Academics Committee
More often than not, science junkies tend to be bookworms and typical overachievers oozing with endless curiosity. This is the committee where this kind of people can channel their inner grade-conscious alter egos and make good use of their acads-before-self skills to help their fellow members in their academic affairs and to make learning more fun for all, by organizing events such as UPCAT tutorials and quiz bees.
Membership Committee
The organization is nothing without its members. Responsible for outlining the requirements for applicants before the application period, this committee is home to members raring to bear witness to another application process well executed and enjoyed by the possibly future members of the organization. Being fun and with expressive spontaneity, this committee makes sure that the process is packed with activities that are sure to make and strengthen bonds between the applicants and the members.
Socio-Civic Committee
The best way to know that there is learning is to apply the knowledge acquired inside the four walls of the classroom to the outside world. This committee is in charge of organizing events such as medical missions, tuli missions, dental missions, blood drives and tree planting events that surely don’t just keep acadsstress at bay, but also, are excellent in stimulating the mind and reigniting the members’ dedication to helping out and being involved.
Secretariat Committee
Much as intelligent Bio majors tend to memorize a lot of things and not to forget these quickly, it is quite impossible that minutes of meetings and other org related information might be easily immortalized into the members’ minds. Thus, this committee does this job of keeping records about the org that will hopefully hold steadfast and stand the test of time. Moreover, this committee, comprised with members with a zest for arts and crafts, is also responsible for the production of event props. Lastly, it is responsible for org recognition, for submitting the required documents that are sure to anchor the organization.
Externals Committee
There is no doubt that being a bio major means allowing pressure to invade our lives making stress-free moments and socializing with other people become rare occurrences. This committee, composed of members who believe in the power of balance between work and play, is responsible for the organization of outings, project tie-ups and publicity events that help strengthen ties within and outside the org, and for the members to, at least once in awhile, have the chance to just let down their hair, go out of their way, celebrate and live life on the edge.
Sports Committee
Being science geeks never meant being lame at sports. This committee proves this significant and true by tapping into the members’ wealth of talent in sports, exploring their skills and making the most out of them, either by competing with other orgs or by leisure playing, both aiming to help in the members’ physical development. Aside from these, the committee is also the leader in the promotion of and the waste management in the tambayan.
Biologue Committee
We all have to admit it, today’s increasingly digital world means that to get ahead, one needs to get wired. An official newsletter, and online platforms like a Facebook page and an org website have become essential tools for the updates in the org and for its promotion. This committee, the home of artistic members with a huge dollop of creativity: graphic-design-junkies, layout artists and photographers, is responsible for maintaining all these org online portfolios and the publication of the organization called Biologue.
Finance Committee
Money isn’t everything but it’s always best to have enough for the future events of the org. This committee is responsible for empowering the organization’s funds with ample savings before it jumps ship. It also shows that financially arming the org is anything but boring by holding a variety of fun fund raising activities such as garage sales and bake sales. This committee is home to money savvy members who work hard in making sure that the org is always financially equipped.
Alumni Committee
This committee lives by the words, do not burn bridges. The alumni are sent off on a high note and never forgotten. This committee, composed of sociable members, makes certain that the people who have imparted knowledge and experience, and have provided a platform to learn more about the organization, are never forgotten and are given due respect, as shown via the organization of alumni related activities like the Alumni Homecoming.
